An Unlikely Source of Relief for Heartburn

I get heartburn often enough for it to affect my daily eating habits, but not often enough to be diagnosed with GERD or acid reflux. Theoretically, I could avoid those foods that cause me to have heartburn. But realistically, I am fully aware of my Achilles’ heel for chili cheese hotdogs lightly dusted with bacon bits. Mmmm! I know I am not the only one who suffers from heartburn so I decided to share my personal story with fellow sufferers. I used to use TUMS and other such products whenever I had heartburn. One day, however, I had a bad bout of heartburn and was out of medication. With some internet searching I found that there were home remedies that were just as effective (if not more than) the regular over-the-counter stuff. I decided to try apple cider vinegar. (I do not believe that regular vinegar is as effective so stick with apple cider vinegar.) That's a product quite a few people have in their kitchen cabinets and that has a ton of handy uses. For heartburn, I usually put about one and a half to two tablespoons of apple cider vinegar in a glass of water. This works for me, a smaller or larger dose might work better for others. Then, I sip the vinegar and water mixture through a straw. Apple cider vinegar is really strong and may be damaging to tooth enamel. Drinking it through the straw ensures that it does not hit my teeth and enables it to work on my heartburn. I have to say that I have not used over-the-counter medications to treat my heartburn in months since I found apple cider vinegar. I hope this home remedy is able to help others as well.
