Components of a Healthy Lifestyle

Determine the major components of a healthy lifestyle and become healthy. Everybody is telling you that if you want to be healthy, then you must change. But, in order to do that, you have to first determine what exactly needs to be changed. What are the most important components of a healthy lifestyle?

Diet:

This means different things to different people. Follow the pages in this website for specific pros and cons of the different diets. However, in terms of lifestyle, stay away from fast foods. Take the time to prepare your own food daily and if you must eat out, choose only the foods that you know are good for you. These foods are to be absolutely avoided

  • Fried Foods: raises cholesterol, can affect the gall bladder, and can increase oxidative stress in the body.
  • Trans Fats: can lead to inflammation of the arterioles, which is a precursor to heart disease.
  • Simple Carbs and Sugars: raises insulin levels, and can affect the adrenals (stress glands) and can have an impact on other hormones, leading to hypoglycemia and if not controlled, diabetes.
  • Caffeine: affects your adrenals which only leads to more stress. Caffeine can also have an effect on the sugar levels.
  • Exercise: is good for your heart and lymphatic system. It’s also good for your mental attitude since exercise increases the production of endorphins in the brain. Endorphins give you that glowing feeling.
  • Cigarettes: Can lead to heart disease and emphysema. Every time I ask a patient to stop smoking, the answer is usually: “But doctor, I hardly smoke. Only a half a pack a day!” Well, add that up over a lifetime. Quitting cigarette smoking is probably top on the list of components of a healthy lifestyle.
  • Proper Mental Attitude: This means you generally always happy. Even if things aren’t exactly going the way you want, you accept each day as a challenge. Don’t allow yourself to become down trodden from difficulties. If you do, just pick yourself up and move on. Don’t look back. Stay Positive.
  • Proper Sleep: this means enough hours and the sleep should be restful. That means a deep delta sleep as opposed to sleeping with anxiety and worry. When you wake up you should feel rested and refreshed.
  • Implementing the components of a healthy lifestyle entails taking time out for yourself. So many men and even ladies, spend their days at work and when they come home, they’ll take their work home with them. They go to sleep late, and wake up early without getting a restful sleep because they’re thinking about the stresses of their work. Women also spend their days busily taking care of their children and give little attention to their health.

    Take the Challenge

If you really want to be healthy, you must make a change. Take time out for yourself every day. If you rush to work in the morning, prepare your food for the day the night before. Take some time out during the day to relax. Oops. You heard it. Take ten or even twenty minutes a day and either meditate or do deep breathing exercises, or even take a nap. And all of this does not even include your daily exercise. Try to exercise at least 20 minutes a day, or 45 minutes three times a week. These are some of the major components of a healthy lifestyle. Place yourself on a daily regiment and note the changes. Optimum health can be yours if you’re willing to make the necessary changes to your lifestyle.
